The EU Council has announced additional restrictive EU measures against Iranian individuals and legal entities in connection with human rights violations. According to Interfax, this was reported in a communique published in Brussels.
“Today, the council decided to impose restrictive measures against 32 more individuals and two organizations responsible for serious human rights violations in Iran,” the document says.
It is indicated that among those who fell under the new EU sanctions are “the Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance of Iran and the Minister of Education, the deputy commander and representative of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), co-founders of the organization Ravin Academy, included in the (sanctions) list of the EU, members of the Iranian Parliament, supporters of brutal repression, police officers, members of the judiciary in various parts of the country, as well as guards and directors of prisons.”
The decision of the Council of the EU is also directed against the Fund for Law Enforcement Cooperation and the Institute for Police Science and Social Research.
In total, restrictive measures against Iran are applied to 196 individuals and 33 legal entities, specify in Brussels.
These measures mean an asset freeze, a ban on travel to the EU and on the provision of funds or economic resources to the listed individuals. There is also a ban on the export to Iran of equipment that can be used for internal repression and equipment for monitoring telecommunications.
