Local publications published a video in which Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky are at the St. Michael’s Cathedral in Kyiv. Sirens can be heard in the video footage. It is noted that an air alert has been declared in all regions of the country, including the capital.
Zelensky’s Telegram channel also confirmed that Biden is in Kyiv.
“Your visit is a very important manifestation of support for all Ukrainians,” Zelensky said in a statement. According to Reuters, Zelensky also said he had discussed the issue of long-range weapons with Biden in Kyiv.
Earlier it was reported that in Kyiv blocked traffic on the streets in the center of the capital. According to various publications, Hetman streets and Lesia Ukrainka Boulevard, as well as Pobeda Avenue, were blocked. In addition, the Shulyaevsky and Povitroflotsky bridges were closed. As a result of the blockages, traffic jams arose in the city. No street closures were announced in advance.
Earlier, the White House denied that the 80-year-old US president could visit Ukraine in the near future. Biden’s plans, announced by his administration, included a trip to Poland, during which a message was announced to Russian President Vladimir Putin and the people of Russia.
As the US president said in Kyiv, Ukraine will receive a new $500 million military aid package, which will be announced on Tuesday.
