The United States fears that China is allegedly considering the possibility of transferring aid related to lethal weapons to Russia. According to TASS with reference to NBC, this statement was made by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
According to Blinken, in a conversation with the head of the office of the foreign affairs commission of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, a member of the Politburo, Wang Yi, he “conveyed US concerns” about China’s alleged support for Russia.
“In recent years, we have seen support at the level of rhetoric and policy, and even some non-lethal assistance. But we are extremely concerned that China is considering providing lethal assistance to Russia,” the US Secretary of State said.
According to him, the provision of assistance related to lethal weapons will have “serious consequences” for Beijing in relations with the United States.
The head of US diplomacy was asked to clarify what he meant by lethal weapons assistance. “This is, first of all, the supply of weapons,” Blinken said. “A whole range of products fall into this category, from ammunition to the weapons themselves.”
“We have made it clear to them that this will create a serious problem for us and our relationship,” the Secretary of State said.
