State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin called meanness plans to cancel Victory Day in Ukraine, celebrated in the CIS countries on May 9. Volodin wrote about this in his Telegram channel.
“Cancellation of Victory Day is the meanest act towards those who gave their lives for the liberation of the world from Nazism,” Volodin said.
He added that in the Great Patriotic War, Russia, Ukraine and Belarus suffered “most of all.” “Millions of dead, cities were destroyed, villages were burned,” Volodin specified, adding that the memory of the victory unites three peoples and “gives no rest to the current Kiev regime headed by” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
On February 14, a bill was submitted to the Verkhovna Rada to cancel the celebration of March 8, May 1 and Victory Day in the country. “In May, it is also necessary to get rid of the vestiges of the past regarding the celebration of the “Day of Victory over Nazism in World War II” on May 9,” the explanatory note says.
The authors of the bill from the Svoboda and Golos parties emphasized that the end of World War II on the European front is celebrated on May 8, not May 9, and in other states “this is not a holiday, but a day of mourning in memory of tens of millions of those who died.” The corresponding nature of the memorable day was called for to return in Ukraine.
