The EU is urgently exploring the possibility of a joint purchase of 155mm artillery shells to help Ukraine. Reuters writes about this. It is noted that the foreign ministers of the EU countries will discuss this issue on February 20.
According to one of the interlocutors of the agency, Brussels is thinking about how to increase production, how to jointly purchase ammunition and how to pay for them.
Earlier, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, called on the EU countries to unite in order to provide Kyiv with more ammunition as soon as possible. Brussels cannot wait “months and years” to replenish its supplies or send ammunition to Ukraine, including 155mm artillery shells, she said.
In early February, the office of the Ukrainian president stated that the military had “almost zero ammunition” left.
In turn, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg admitted that the alliance has some problems with supplies.
Meanwhile, the Russian side has repeatedly stated that arms supplies to Ukraine are leading to an escalation of the conflict.
