The World Health Organization (WHO) has asked for $84.5 million in funding to support earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria.

Earthquakes in these countries were “the biggest natural disaster in the WHO European Region in a century,” the organization said in a social media post.

WHO’s funding needs for Turkey and Syria currently stand at $84.57 million to address health challenges. The money is needed for immediate assistance to the victims and for the provision of post-traumatic rehabilitation support, medicines, outbreak prevention and control, as well as for the coordination of emergency medical teams, is specified in the “flash appeal” published on the WHO website.

Two earthquakes in Turkey occurred on February 6. Their magnitude was 7.7 and 7.6, tremors were felt in neighboring Syria and other countries. They became the most destructive in the history of Turkey. The aftershocks affected 13.5 million people in ten Turkish provinces, said President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
