Mobility in Guayaquil becomes chaotic with the arrival of the rains, which mainly affect areas in the north of the city.

From flooded streets to blacked-out traffic lights, traffic has been hampered in recent days when rainfall fell for several hours. Only yesterday with rain in the morning, heavy traffic was confirmed in the main avenues of the central north, such as America, Juan Tanca Marengo or Pedro Menéndez, where cars went slowly on the wet road. There were also sectors that reported being without electricity: Alborada, Mucho Lote, Orquídeas and Simón Bolívar.

The storm additionally slows down the usual complications of several road axes, including the road to the coast, which is considered the new development hub of the city and for which the geometric reconfiguration projects of the transit divider from the road to the coast and the Perimetral are being analyzed, in the west-east direction, and even pedestrian crossings and hollows along 16 km. In addition, the municipality of Guayaquil said that the best options are still being evaluated to avoid the same thing happening on Samborondón Avenue, which is another artery through which thousands of vehicles reach the city daily and which lives chaos during the hours. The idea, according to the council, is to make fewer returns to keep the pace fast. Also, thinking that in the coming years the new airport announced will have this road as its access.

slower and safer

According to the residents of the area, the issue of carrying out work on improving vehicular and pedestrian traffic has been unresolved in recent years, which is an important matter that those who do not have their own car and use public transport should take into account. Likewise, we must not forget those who use non-motorized means of transport.

Caring for mobility is the responsibility of the authorities, and citizens must also respect traffic laws in order not to create more congestion and difficulties on the roads. (OR)
