Sales of road construction equipment and special equipment last year in quantitative terms decreased by a third compared to 2021. This is evidenced by the data of the Association of European Businesses.

AEB sales data includes importers and Russian manufacturers, which together account for approximately 80% of the Russian DST and special equipment market.

So, in 2022, 13,677 units of equipment were sold, while a year earlier, sales amounted to 20,508 units. According to the AEB, all types of equipment sank, except for wheeled excavators. The implementation of the latter increased by 9% to 1039 vehicles.

The AEB indicates that the decline in the market for DST and special equipment in Russia occurred for the first time since 2016.

As a representative of the Kranex company explained to Vedomosti, the drop in sales last year is primarily due to the forced change of component suppliers against the backdrop of sanctions. At the same time, according to the interlocutor of the publication, about 80% of enterprises have already reoriented to Asian component manufacturers. In his opinion, the drop in sales is a temporary phenomenon, but there is a risk of competition from Chinese producers of DST, some of which “set dumping prices.”

In turn, Denis Kudryavtsev, CEO of Spetsavtoprom, attributes the drop in sales in 2022 to the increase in leasing and loan rates after the start of the SVO in Ukraine.
