CTE will activate road safety plan from this Friday, for the Carnival holiday 2023

The Transit Commission of Ecuador (CTE) will activate the plan this Friday Travel safe!to exercise road safety actions and citizen co-responsibility by respecting speed limits, use of seat belts, car care, carrying qualifying titles, among other points.

This plan will be active from 12:00 on Friday the 17th to 24:00 on Tuesday, February 21, in the framework of the carnival festivities.

The CTE will carry out control operations in 3,131 km of state and cantonal roads under its jurisdiction, in the provinces of Guayas, Santa Elena, Los Ríos, El Oro, Azuay, Santo Domingo, Manabí, Pichincha and Bolívar (Caluma and Las Naves), in addition to the four Binational Border Assistance Centers (CEBAF) located in Carchi, Sucumbíos, Loja and Huaquillas.

4,634 guards will work on the tracks. 285 vehicular units _between trucks, ambulances, rescue and cranes_, plus 230 motorcycles, scooters and bicycles will transport transit personnel. In addition, 249 fixed radars will control speed.

As indicated by the transit entity, the task will be intensified in eight land terminals: Guayaquil (Jaime Roldós Aguilera and Municipal Pascuales), Durán, Milagro, Santa Elena, Vinces, Quevedo and Ventanas. There will also be persuasive actions in 16 tolls whose competence is the CTE.

Vehicles that do not use license plates in authorized places or that are not visible will continue to be prohibited from driving. The fine corresponds to 30% of the unified basic salary (SBU)established in Art. 389 #12 of the Comprehensive Criminal Organic Code (COIP).

During the 2022 carnival holiday, 150 accidents were registered, 19 deaths and 133 injuries, with Guayas, Santa Elena and Los Ríos being the provinces with the highest accident rates. (YO)
