The National Assembly and the National Court of Justice, through communiqués issued on February 12, expressed their astonishment and concern at the “sudden” decision taken by the National Police to transfer all police officers who belonged to the team to other functions and services. Investigation of the State Attorney General’s Office.
In an official statement, the National Police reported that it continues to support the State Attorney General’s Office with the same number of investigative and security police officers, that the staff has only been rotated, as appropriate after completing their term. Due to the rotation plans in 2022, 6,361 transfers were registered and so far in 2023 there are 2,982 for different reasons.

Therefore, the Legislative Branch reiterates its respect for the country’s institutional framework and maintains that the Prosecutor’s Office must have all the necessary technical and logistical support, as well as guarantees that it can fully carry out its work, the document indicates.
While the National Court of Justice in its manifesto maintains that the latest events affect the independence and integrity of the judges and the State Attorney General’s Office in its investigation of allegedly criminal acts.
The Court expresses its concern while requiring all public authorities to respect and guarantee the exercise of the powers that the Constitution and the law establish for judicial servants, as well as their safety and honor; doing otherwise violates due process, judicial protection, among other rights.
The statement concludes by stating that the plenary session of the National Court of Justice will always defend the fundamental principles of the Judiciary to guarantee citizens and renews its commitment to fight for institutional independence. (YO)
