Diplomats of countries supporting Kyiv circulated among their colleagues in the UN General Assembly a resolution on the need to achieve a lasting peace as soon as possible, ensuring the independence, sovereignty of Ukraine, its unity and territorial integrity, the AP agency writes, citing sources.
The document is called “Principles underlying a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine”, its content repeats the requirement of the previous General Assembly resolution for Russia on the “immediate, complete and unconditional withdrawal of all its armed forces” from the internationally recognized borders of Ukraine.
The text of the resolution is broader and less detailed than the “peace formula” proposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to an agency that reviewed the draft document. According to AP interlocutors among diplomats, this is a deliberate move by Ukraine and the states supporting it to enlist the utmost support in the vote.
Diplomats said that the document was received by representatives of all UN member states, except for Russia and Belarus, on Thursday, February 9. Discussions on the text began the next day.
