Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said that representatives of Kyiv continue provocations to make Georgia a participant in the conflict that is taking place on the territory of Ukraine. It is reported by TASS.
“Our government managed to prevent the biggest test for our country – war. Attempts to somehow transfer this conflict to our country do not stop. On this score, we heard statements from representatives of the Ukrainian authorities. Their goal was to open a “second front”. This goal was served by the dispatch of ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili to Georgia and a lot of provocations, which, unfortunately, do not stop on their part,” Garibashvili said.
Tension in relations between Kyiv and Tbilisi arose after Garibashvili announced on February 25 last year that he did not plan to impose sanctions against Russia, explaining this by national interests. In early March, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recalled the ambassador from Tbilisi “for the immoral position” of the Georgian authorities on the issue of sanctions. After that, the Ukrainian authorities repeatedly accused Georgia of assisting Russia in order to circumvent the restrictive measures imposed against it.
Sharp statements by Kyiv against the Georgian authorities have become more frequent recently because of the situation with Saakashvili. The Ukrainian authorities are calling on Georgia to release the ex-president, whose health is deteriorating.
