An event organized on Friday at the Gran Colombia school, in the north center of Quito, ended badly. At least 28 people were injured by a stampede of students who tried to leave the coliseum.
The Quito Fire Department (CBQ) reported that there was a meeting of students and parents, when the young people left the site they did not do so in an organized manner. “This produced an accumulation of people at the doors, which caused a kind of stampede that generated injured students.”
According to the preliminary report, fourteen victims were transferred to health homes to receive further care.
To attend to the emergency, five ambulances from the Fire Department, two ambulances from the Ministry of Health, a tanker and a pumper were deployed.
Metropolitan Transit Agents closed the vehicular passage on the roads surrounding the institution, on Selva Alegre and MartÃn de Utreras streets, Las Casas sector. (YO)
