American journalist Seymour Hersh, who published an investigation into sabotage on the Nord Stream gas pipelines, refused to speak in the State Duma. It is reported by RIA Novosti.
“Thanks a lot, but I do stories, not politics,” Hersh told the agency.
Earlier, deputy Sultan Khamzaev suggested that parliamentarians invite an American journalist to the State Duma to tell in more detail about his investigation.
Seymour Hersh is a famous American journalist, winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1970, five George Polk Prizes and the George Orwell Prize. Hersh is 85 years old. He gained worldwide fame in 1969 after an article about a massacre in the Vietnamese village of Song My. In 2004, he became one of the first journalists to reveal the story of the torture of Iraqis in the Abu Ghraib prison.
On February 8, Hersh published an investigation into the sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipelines on his blog. In it, referring to an anonymous source, he claims that the explosion was organized by American divers with the assistance of Norway.
According to the journalist’s source, US Navy divers planted remotely activated devices under the cover of the BALTOPS 22 exercise, which took place last June. Three months later, in September, explosive devices were set off and destroyed three of the four pipes of the Nord Stream system. For this, a signal was used from a beacon dropped from a Norwegian aircraft.
The Norwegian Foreign Ministry called such accusations “nonsense”. Earlier, the American side also denied involvement in the Nord Stream explosions.
The UN said that the organization has no data on US involvement in these explosions.
