There is an increase in infections and isolates of COVID-19 in ICU areas of Manabí and Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas

In the event that infections continue in Health zone 4, the possibility of hospitals converting beds for COVID-19 ICUs is raised.

PORTOVIEJO

Of the 30 beds enabled in areas of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for patients with COVID-19 in hospitals in Manabí and Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, 21 are occupied by patients who have been admitted in recent days.

Although there is no waiting list for serious patients with the virus that causes COVID-19, according to Jessica Barrezueta, zonal director of public health surveillance of zonal coordination 4 of the Ministry of Public Health, it is expected that in the next few days Increase the reports of infected before the relaxation of the application of sanitary measures by some people in activities carried out in the past holiday of Deceased and Independence of Cuenca.

“We are hoping that after two to three weeks there will be an increase and incidence of cases, because we remember all the long holiday that there has also been and that there were parties everywhere, that people relaxed enough from the biosecurity measures. But we are there, expectant and vigilant, trying to prevent these patients from reaching the ICU ”, declared Barrezueta.

Barrezueta acknowledged that in recent weeks they have had a slight rebound in the incidence of COVID-19 cases, most of them outpatients, but also of people with severe cases.

Until a month ago the average weekly contagion in Manabí reached 10, but the previous week it reached 50.

In the last five weeks in that province there were 208 cases of contagion reported, but 430 results of samples that have already been sent for analysis are awaited.

During the first day, vaccination to the age group of 12 to 15 years was received in Manabí, Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas and Azuay

Meanwhile, in the province of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas there are eight beds in ICU areas destined for patients with COVID-19. They are all cool. In Manabí, of the 22 enabled beds, 13 are occupied by seriously ill patients with the virus.

Most of those admitted are older adults who have not been vaccinated or have just been immunized with the first dose of the vaccine, it was indicated. “And it is also due to the fact that many people do not want to access vaccination. So, that is also critical for us, since we have demonstrated it throughout the process: that vaccination has helped us a lot to reduce the number of deaths from COVID-19, ″ said Barrezueta.

Therefore, the official called for laggards to go to receive the vaccine, and also for older adults and those with comorbidity to apply the third vaccine against COVID-19, taking into account that six must pass months from the second dose to receive that booster dose.

In case the infections increase, the health authorities of the zonal coordination 4 are already analyzing an alternative plan to care for the patients.

“At the time, although we hope it does not happen, where we would get to have an increase and we would not have beds, since all hospitals will have to convert beds. But currently this is not the case, since we still have nine beds available and we do not have a waiting list, ”said Barrezueta.

Stability in Ambato

Last week, for the first time in more than a year, in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Ambato General Teaching Hospital (HGDA) there was not a single patient with COVID, said the manager of the health home, Andrés Jaramillo , by ruling out that there is evidence of a rebound in cases of the virus in that medical home.

He added that until this Wednesday there were two patients in the isolation area and the tests were awaited to certify their possible contagion.

Jaramillo commented that due to the decrease in COVID-19 cases, patients with other pathologies are cared for and considered that the incidents left by last holiday should still be awaited.

The hospital manager regretted the disobedience that is evident in some citizens regarding biosecurity measures to prevent COVID-19 infections, and insisted on the importance of citizens continuing to distance themselves, the use of a mask and disinfectant alcohol. (I)
