In Finland, a large-scale strike of trade employees begins, RBC reports with reference to the Finnish media.
According to the office of Finland’s state labor mediator, the protest will shut down high-profile Finnish stores from February 9-11. In particular, employees of Kesko and S-ryhmä chains will take part in it. Employees of K-Citymarket, Prisma and Lidl can also join the campaign.
The strike was called after talks between the PAM Service Workers Union and a government labor dispute mediator stalled. The union was trying to get a €200 per month wage increase (as a raise) for workers in the trade sector.
The current protest will last two days, but an even larger strike is planned for February 16-18. If the parties fail to agree before these dates, 415 stores across the country may stop working. In particular, all K-Citymarket, Prisma and Lidl stores will take part in the big promotion.
At the same time, several hypermarkets have already announced that they will not close and will continue to work almost as usual, despite the protest. According to retailers, shoppers can only find out about the strike “by the queues at the checkout, which will be longer than usual.”
