MOCHA, Tungurahua

Danilo Ortiz was not only re-elected as mayor of Mocha, Tungurahua province, but he did so with the overwhelming majority of 80.23%, 4,294 votes, having 100% of the minutes processed.

Far behind was the one who placed second, María Miranda, with 437 votes, representing 8.17%. She participated for the 1-62 alliance.

Ortiz recalled that in the previous process he won the Mayor’s office with just over 50%, but now he does so forcefully.

He attributes it to pillars such as “attacking cancer” which, he says, exists in all sectional organizations: excess current spending. He pointed out that his administration was reduced and those resources went to works.

He mentioned that excess personnel occurs in all municipalities, because each of the mayors arrives and, to maintain leadership, offers positions. He added that the issue is not that, but to provide solutions to the needs of the population.

Pabel Muñoz, the mayor-elect of Quito, will need consensus within the Council, where six movements will come together

He added that in current spending, savings of around $215,000 were made each year, with which more works could be done.

The mayor-elect maintained that he managed to better manage resources through direct administration. He explained that the works in any other municipality are worth five times higher than they are in Mocha.

“A kilometer of sidewalk costs around $32,000 or $34,000, but in Mocha it costs $12,000 or $14,000. Also, a structure for a court in any part of the country costs between $120,000 and $130,000; in Mocha it is around $22,000 or $23,000. In addition, here in the same canton, in previous administrations, a lawn and enclosure for a stadium cost $135,000, and in ours it reaches $30,000 and $35,000 ″, he said.

Ortiz assured that doing works by direct administration guarantees quality. Through public purchases, materials were acquired and inclusive fairs were held to be carried out with professionals from the canton, thus saving indirect costs, such as the percentages delivered by contractors.

He stressed that the works in Mocha were done without credits. At the same time, he questioned the State Bank, because instead of helping municipalities, they provide resources but with high interest rates.

He said that around $1.5 million is the annual income of the Municipality, which is destined only for works.

The re-elected mayor of Mocha called on those who were elected on Sunday, February 5, to do things well and spend resources in a better way, in order to channel the progress of each canton.

He believes that it is time to change the history of doing politics, because sometimes they deprive themselves to win a dignity of popular election “to become millionaires.”

He confessed that he feels motivated by the resounding vote achieved, because it reflects that the people of Mocha are happy with the work done. (YO)
