The beginning of the electoral day in Azuay began this Sunday without major difficulties. The main novelty presented was an electrical blackout that on Saturday night affected the southern area of ​​the city where the Electoral Processing Center (CPE) is located, but, according to the authorities of the National Electoral Council, everything was solved by the presence of an external generator.

Except for this situation and the late installations of the Vote Receiving Boards (JRV), the voting in the Azuaya capital takes place without major problems at this start of the day.

The inauguration took place at 06:15 in the CPE, where the provincial director of the CNE, Teodoro Maldonado, ratified the transparency of the process and that the first official results are expected to be after 19:00.

According to official data, 635,052 voters are registered in Azuay, the majority of them being women with 53.03%, which represents 336,712, and the remaining 46.97% correspond to 298,339 men.

Among all, they will elect 414 authorities distributed as follows: a provincial prefect, a vice-prefect, 15 mayors, 53 urban councilors, 32 rural councilors and 305 parish council members.

Of the total number of voters distributed in the 15 cantons, Cuenca is the one with the largest number of registered voters with 448,552 voters, followed by Gualaceo with 38,406, Sígsig with 24,475, Paute with 23,680 and Camilo Ponce Enríquez with 17,958 citizens.

Regarding non-compliance with the dry law, the Police Mayor, Gustavo Toledo, reported that five citizens were sanctioned and two premises were closed.

After the events that occurred last night with the assassination of the candidate for mayor of the Puerto López canton, the police commander of Zone 6, Xavier Rosero, assured that so far no candidate has requested additional protection, however they are ready to attend any contingency. (YO)
