A 30-year-old man was arrested inside the Central Market of Guayaquil, on 10 de Agosto and Lorenzo de Garaicoa streets, at the moment when he was threatening merchants with a firearm to get them to give him money.
Uniforms from the 9 de Octubre district indicated that they entered the supply center after a citizen alert.
One person reported that a thick-set subject, who was wearing a plaid shirt, black cap, was aboard a motorcycle threatening merchants to give him money.

“We went to the gate of 10 de Agosto and upon entering we saw a citizen with similar characteristics, so when trying to search the citizen presented an uncooperative attitude. When doing a body search at waist level on the right side, he was found in possession of a 38 spl revolver-type firearm, 5 cartridges without firing ”, explained one of the agents in the report.
Witnesses indicated that the man was engaged in collecting money under threats, extortion. That he entered the market and with the weapon threatened the merchants.
Uniformed officers verified in the system that the man does have a criminal record for robbery.
The agents transferred the man and the evidence to the Judicial Unit for Flagrant Crimes of Guayaquil, in the Cuartel Modelo, for the flagrante delicto hearing.
The investigation also requested the videos from the security cameras to find out how these people operate when carrying out this type of extortion. (YO)
