In February, Poland is going to reduce oil supplies via the Druzhba pipeline from Russia from 500,000 tons in January to 220,000 tons. It is reported by Bloomberg, citing sources.

According to the agency, this is due to the fact that the Polish oil refinery Orlen decided not to renew the contract with the Russian Rosneft and only the contract with Tatneft will continue to operate.

Orlen told Bloomberg that 90% of the crude oil that is processed at the company’s plants will not come from Russia, but from other suppliers.

The Polish TV channel TVP reported in December 2022, citing the press service of Orlen, that the company was not going to renew one of the long-term contracts with Russian oil suppliers, expiring in January, and another one would cease to operate after the introduction of appropriate sanctions against Russia. Specific companies in Orlen were not named.

In November 2022, Poland announced the need to impose sanctions against Druzhba, and against both branches (the northern one goes to Poland and then to Germany, the southern one goes to the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia). Reuters wrote that this was due to Warsaw’s unwillingness to pay a fine for a possible termination of the contract with Tatneft.

In December 2022, another Russian company, Transneft, reported that Orlen had applied to transit 3 million tons of Russian oil via Druzhba in 2023.
