Turkish authorities are working to extend the “grain deal”, which expires on March 18, said Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.
According to him, “Turkey is making efforts to ensure that the grain deal proceeds without problems,” RIA Novosti reports. Cavusoglu said that “problems periodically arise” and added that in such situations, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan holds telephone conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
The politician recalled that the second extended term of the grain deal ends in mid-March, and noted that Ankara is making efforts to extend it. “We know how important this is for world food security and for countries in need,” Cavusoglu said at a press conference in Istanbul.
The grain deal, which was signed on July 22 by representatives of Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and the UN, involves the export of Ukrainian grain, food and fertilizer across the Black Sea from three ports, including Odessa.
