The European Union, as part of the EUMAM Ukraine mission, will train another 15,000 Ukrainian soldiers. According to Interfax, the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said that the total number of military personnel of this country trained under EUMAM programs will reach 30 thousand people,

Borrell also said that the EU will allocate 25 million euros to Ukraine to help clear mines.

On November 15 last year, the European Union launched a mission to train the Ukrainian military EUMAM Ukraine. The EU Council noted that the mandate of the mission initially provided for “training up to 15 thousand military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in several places on the territory of the EU member states.”

The Council also decided to allocate 16 million euros under the European Peace Fund “to support the capacity building of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with the help of EUMAM Ukraine”. These funds will finance the supply by the EU member states of the Ukrainian side with ammunition, military equipment, as well as the transportation, maintenance and repair of the supplied equipment. In January of this year, the Foreign Ministers of the EU member states agreed to allocate 45 million euros from the European Peace Fund for the training of Ukrainian military personnel undergoing training under the EU training mission programs.

The mandate of the mission is two years. The funds allocated for the mission will complement the EU funding for Ukraine under the European Peace Fund, which has reached more than 3.1 billion euros.
