This February 5, the new mayors, councilors and prefects of each canton and province of the country will be elected. Nevertheless, Citizens must also vote for the new members of the Citizen Participation Council.
This council is made up of three representatives from the women’s list, three representatives from the men’s list, and one representative from the list of indigenous peoples and nationalities, Afro-Ecuadorians or Montubios, and Ecuadorians abroad.
This entity works to promote and guarantee citizen participation, social control and accountability, in the fight against corruption and the fight against impunity; it also leads the designation processes of selected authorities through inclusive and transparent processes.
The CPCCS exists so that the processes or projects executed by the State institutions that handle public funds are for clear and transparent purposes, in order to avoid corruption. In addition, it has as one of its objectives promote citizen initiatives and promote mechanisms of participation and social control such as oversight offices, observatories, assemblies, among others.
After the election, three men and three women will be appointed as directors. If within the six designated there is not a member of the peoples and nationalities, The person who obtained the highest number of votes on that ballot will be appointed as the seventh director.and the substitute will be the most voted candidate that represents Ecuadorians abroad.
