In his article 67 the Childhood and Adolescence Code defines abuse as any action or omission that causes or may cause damage to the integrity or physical, psychological or sexual health of a child or adolescent, by any person, including their parents, other relatives, educators and persons charge of care regardless of the means used, the effect, consequences and the time necessary for the recovery of the victim.

The article 73 of said regulation establishes that it is the duty of all persons to intervene immediately to protect a child or adolescent in flagrant cases of abuse.

Acts of violence are penalized by the Comprehensive Organic Criminal Code (COIP), which stipulates sanctions for those who harm the integrity of other people.

In the second section, which contains crimes against personal integrity, article 152 states that the person who injures another will be punished in accordance with the following rules:

1.- If as a result of the injuries the victim suffers damage, illness or leave of four to eight dayswill be sanctioned with a custodial sentence thirty to sixty days.

2.- If it causes damage, disability or illness to the victim from nine to thirty dayswill be sanctioned with a custodial sentence two months to a year.

3.- If it causes the victim damage, disability or illness of thirty one to ninety dayswill be sanctioned with a custodial sentence from one to three years.

4.- If it causes the victim a serious illness or a decrease in his physical or mental faculties or a disability or illness, which is not permanent, exceed ninety dayswill be sanctioned with a custodial sentence three to five years.

5.- If it causes the victim mental alienation, loss of sense or the faculty of speech, uselessness for work, permanent disability, loss or uselessness of any organ or a serious communicable and incurable disease, it will be sanctioned with imprisonment. freedom of five to seven years.

If the injury occurs during mass gatherings, riots, popular commotion, sporting event or public calamity, it will be sanctioned with the maximum of the custodial sentence provided for each case, increased by one third.

The injury caused by violating an objective duty of care, in any of the above cases, will be sanctioned with a custodial sentence of a quarter of the minimum sentence provided for in each case.
