A total of 13,450,047 citizens are summoned to exercise their right to vote in the elections on February 5.

The objective is to elect 23 provincial prefects and vice-prefects, 221 mayors, 864 urban councillors, 443 rural councillors, 4,109 members of the parish councils and 7 main and alternate councilors of the Council for Citizen Participation and Social Control (CPCCS).

The voters of the urban areas will receive a total of seven ballots:

Who is required to vote?

Ecuadorians who are between 18 and 65 years old with the right to vote and people of legal age deprived of liberty without an enforceable conviction.

Members of the Armed Forces and National Police in active service.

People with disabilities.

Foreigners from the age of 18 who have legally resided in the country for at least five years and are registered in the Electoral Registry.

Persons deprived of liberty without an enforceable conviction will exercise their right to vote on Thursday, February 2.

The Vote at Home process will take place on Friday, February 3.

Voting time

Between 07:00 and 17:00 on February 5. And from 09:00 to 19:00 of the same day abroad according to the time of each country.

Requirement to vote

The identity card, even if it is expired, as well as the passport. Since when is campaigning prohibited?

The electoral campaign began on January 3, 2023 and ends this Thursday, February 2, 2023.

Forty-eight hours before the day of the elections (that is, from Friday, February 3) and until 5:00 p.m. on the day of the vote (Sunday, February 5), the dissemination of any type of information ordered by the institutions is prohibited. public, as well as the diffusion of electoral publicity, opinions or images, that induce voters about a position or preference (electoral silence).

As of 12:00 on Friday, February 3, until 12:00 on Monday, February 6, 2023, the sale, distribution or consumption of alcoholic beverages will not be allowed (dry law).

Fines around the elections

For not voting it is 10% of the unified basic salary, SBU ($45).

For not complying as a member of the board receiving the vote (JRV) is 15% of the SBU ($ 67.50).

Whoever makes propaganda on days when it is prohibited (electoral silence) and whoever sells or consumes alcoholic beverages on days when there is a dry law, must pay $225 as a penalty.

For leaving functions as a member of the JRV, it is from 10 to 20 SBU ($4,500 to $9,000).

Civil Registry hours

Service at the 38 Civil Registry agencies will be available from 08:00 to 17:00, Monday through Friday. Saturday February 4: from 07:00 to 20:00. Sunday February 5: from 07:00 to 14:00. You have to schedule the shift virtually at www.registrocivil.gob.ec.
