LGBTIQ+ community has psychosocial services and promotion of rights in Quito

The San José Municipal Board Unit of the Metropolitan District of Quito opened the specialized service aimed at people of gender sexual diversity (LGBTIQ+), which operates in the Tres Manuelas Comprehensive Care Center, located in the historic center of the city.

The services provided are free and focus on psychosocial care and promotion of rights.

For this year it is expected to implement this service in three phases and soon it will have its own space in what will be called “the house of diversity”, which is currently being adapted by the Municipality of Quito.

This January 25, a launch event was held, in which the modalities of attention to the LGBTIQ+ community of the Metropolitan District of Quito were announced.

The director of the Board of Trustees, Rogelio Echeverría, When carrying out a first evaluation since a pilot plan was implemented in December of last year, he said nine people benefited from psychosocial care and 266 people in the dissemination and awareness process.

“We work for all groups in vulnerable situations in the city, with an inclusion approach through our services, seeking to guarantee equitable access and attention worthy of their needs,” said Echeverría.

For her part, the president of the Board of Trustees San José He spoke that a great step is being taken in terms of preserving the human rights of the LGBTIQ+ community, since the services that are provided today set a precedent because it is the first public institution in the country to offer this specialized space focused on psychosocial care. and promotion of their rights.

The San José Board of Trustees Unit works to gather information in order to have a diagnosis of the current situation experienced by people of gender and gender diversity, and thereby strengthen the service. (YO)
