An unusual bicycle garage has been built in Amsterdam, which is located under water, reports Bloomberg. The space can accommodate up to 7,000 vehicles.
The first 24 hours of parking in the new underwater complex will be free. After this time, bike owners will have to pay 1.35 euros per day.
The garage, opened on Wednesday, January 25, was part of a large-scale reconstruction of the space in front of the central railway station of the capital of the Netherlands. The work has been carried out since 2017 and cost the city budget 60 million euros.
Above the garage is a reservoir connected to the Amsterdam harbour, which was pumped out for construction. After that, a huge pit was dug, reinforced with concrete walls, and the roof of the parking lot became the bottom of the renovated pool. It is noted that during the construction work, a large transport hub connecting the railway station and the metro station continued to function. The average daily passenger traffic in this place exceeds 200 thousand people.
