This is the 2023 admission process in four universities in Ecuador

The main universities of Guayaquil, Quito, and Cuenca, have defined their admission processes for the admission of high school graduates for the period 2023, although in some there are also aspects to be defined.

Since this year, this process is no longer in charge of the Secretary of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (Senescyt) but each institution, although there are universities that have requested support from that state entity.

After the National Registry was completed, where high school graduates had to enter their personal data as well as interests in universities and careers, the admission phase will come, between January and March.

Next, what will be taken into account by the Universities of Guayaquil, Central, Cuenca, and Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (Espol).

For next February it will enable a registration platform.

Once registered, high school graduates will be able to select a specific field of knowledge according to what they wish to study and later they will choose up to two careers of their choice.

After this process, the university, through its official accounts, will notify the day on which the applicant must take an evaluation.

The grade that the applicant obtains in this knowledge test, together with the grade from the academic record and in pertinent cases of affirmative actions, will make up the total application score out of a thousand points.

The last step that applicants who accepted a place must complete is to enroll through the institutional platform, according to the calendar that will be published in the official media of the university.

In accordance with the academic program established by the university authorities, the leveling course for the CI 2023-2024 period is expected to begin between June and July and the classes of cycle II 2023-2024 between October and November.

From Tuesday, January 10 to Friday, January 13, there was a schedule of entrance exams for high school graduates and future high school graduates who aspire to complete their undergraduate degree at the institution of higher education.

Each interested party had to take two tests: aptitude and knowledge.

There are 2,800 places offered for leveling, that is, the previous accompaniment course that students must take before entering the university.

The process began with the registration both in the Single National Registry of Senescyt and in the Espol registration platform, for which the corresponding form was filled out.

At the end of the registration in the Espol computer platform, the applicant received a registration voucher and the information to take the leveling entrance exam was communicated via email from the platform.

The exam lasted approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Aptitudes and knowledge in subjects such as Mathematics, Chemistry, Art Sciences and Physics were evaluated.

The score obtained, together with the socioeconomic index and other information provided by Senescyt, such as the high school academic record, allow Espol to carry out the process of assigning places to leveling following the norms established in the Admissions Regulations.

Students apply for a career on the Espol platform, where they can view whether or not they have obtained a place at this institution.

After six working days the results are published online. Students will have two days to make the challenge (if applicable). Once all the stages are completed, the student receives, according to the result, a short monitoring process (leveling) that would start in February or a longer one that is scheduled for May.

Once the place is assigned, the Espol will send the information to Senescyt so that the applicants can accept the place on said platform, thus completing the process.

Classes will start in May 2023.

The high school graduation certificate will have an important weight to enter the Central University of Quito in the 2023 admission process, although the weight it will have has not yet been defined.

In addition, other aspects will be included, such as socioeconomic condition, vulnerability and disabilities.

A percentage adjustment will be made if they come from public schools. Initially there was talk that they will not take an entrance test, but that the option for the Senescyt to do so was left open.

Each semester there is an offer of about 5,600 places. Annually there are 11,200.

Its authorities have defined that some 600 places go to young people who graduate from schools in rural territories considered “excluded”, who do not reach higher education, from provinces such as Chimborazo, Cotopaxi, Tungurahua, Imbabura, Esmeraldas, Napo and Pastaza.

The remaining 5,000 places will be for high school graduates at the national level.

Youth enter a 16-week leveling process and not careers.

The next semester will start in April.

At the University of Cuenca there are 52 majors in 12 faculties.

There will be a single exam in which knowledge and aptitudes will be measured based on basic fields such as logic, mathematics, language, among others, in order to evaluate the knowledge and aptitudes of the applicants.

From the first aspect, what was learned during high school will be considered, and from the second, the abilities for the career to which they aspire. Affirmative actions by each person will also be considered.

Although the content is in the development phase, it will be the same for all applicants for the 52 careers that are distributed in the 12 existing faculties.

Regarding the score to access a certain career, it would depend on a model that responds to supply and demand, because the more interested and fewer places, the value will rise.

The process would be ready for next May. (YO)
