In the Riobamba canton, the Minister of the Environment, Water and Ecological Transition, Gustavo Manrique, national authorities and inhabitants of different communities were part of an event that made visible the integral management of water for the development of the country’s rural sector called “Potable Water and Rural Sanitation for an Ecuador Free of Child Chronic Malnutrition”.
In this meeting between the State, local governments, administrators and users of the water resource, the start of 11 agreements was presented that will be implemented in nine cantons of five provinces such as: Azuay, Chimborazo, El Oro, Loja and Pichincha, for the emblematic project investment project “Promotion of Drinking Water, Sanitation, Irrigation and Drainage – FOGAPRYD” from this State portfolio, which will increase the coverage of quality and quantity water services for 19 rural communities.
This project, which will have an investment of 2.8 million dollars, contemplates the execution of different works of drinking water systems (2 million dollars) and sanitation ($800 thousand), this will generate a direct benefit to 5 thousand inhabitants, through the promotion of 1,400 jobs.
Gustavo Manrique, Minister of the Environment, Water and Ecological Transition, mentioned that “this initial investment by the Government of the Encuentro will improve the quality of life of its inhabitants with water suitable for human consumption, sanitation for the communities, it will strengthen food sovereignty, it will improve health of the population and will contribute to the fight against chronic child malnutrition.
“We fulfill our commitment to take care of the country’s natural resources and also to provide well-being to the population that depends on the vital liquid, because you are the essence of our effort and work so that your children and families have a better future,” he said. Minister Manrique.
For his part, Erwin Ronquillo, Technical Secretary Ecuador Grows Without Child Malnutrition, mentioned that “we have made historic decisions to change the lives of thousands of mothers, boys and girls in the country, for the future of childhood. We prevent Childhood Chronic Malnutrition by working together, therefore, these projects promoted by the Ministry of the Environment for the supply of safe water are essential in the nutrition of children and the elderly”.
Escolástica Guzmán, president of the Pulinguí Drinking Water Board of the Guano canton, expressed her gratitude to the President of the Republic, Guillermo Lasso, and to the national authorities, “because they have opened their ears to the needs of the communities, women, and peasants, ready to offer us their support and good management for the good of our families”.
