University of Cuenca will allocate $500,000 of its budget for student admission

The University of Cuenca will allocate $500,000 of its annual budget to apply the entrance exam to students after the reform to the Organic Law of Higher Education (LOES) that authorizes higher centers to assume the admission of students.

This process until last year was in charge of the Secretary of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (Senescyt).

The University of Guayaquil will enable a platform and take a test in its admission process

The academic vice-rector of the only public university in Azuay, Juan Leonardo Espinoza, announced that the model to be applied will be a single exam in which knowledge and skills will be measured based on basic fields such as logic, mathematics, language, among others, in order to Evaluate the knowledge and skills of applicants.

From the first aspect, what was learned during high school will be considered, and from the second, the abilities for the career to which they aspire. Affirmative actions by each person will also be considered.

Although the content is being prepared, Espinoza pointed out that it will be the same for all applicants for the 52 careers that are distributed in the 12 existing faculties.

Regarding the computer platform to apply the exam, the manager explained that he will buy it from a private server because currently the university is not able to develop it, but they hope that everything will be ready next May.

The writing team has already been defined and there will be a representative from each faculty, but the details of this will be known later and it will be completely confidential to avoid information leaks and thus guarantee transparency.

Regarding the score to access a certain career, Espinoza stressed that this will depend on a model that responds to supply and demand, knowing that the more interested and fewer places, the value will rise.

But as a reference they will take the data from previous years.

Months ago, the possibility of generating a joint exam with other public universities in the country was raised, but in practice that became “quite complicated” because each center has its own particular dynamics, said the academic vice-rector.

Do you want to enter the Polytechnic? This is the admission process carried out by Espol, in which it offers more than 2,000 places for leveling

But, he said, what has not yet been ruled out is that the purchase of the platform is indeed what will help them lower costs.

The official mentioned that this new competition was not accompanied by resources and that is why they had to cut and optimize different items of their Annual Operating Plan, such as investment, research and academic, which in some cases have been rescheduled. (YO)
