The Polish authorities sent Germany an official request for permission to supply Leopard tanks to Ukraine. This was announced in social networks by the Polish Minister of Defense Mariusz Blaszczak.

Warsaw’s appeal also calls on Germany to join the coalition of countries intending to supply Leopard to Kyiv. Blaszczak stressed that this is necessary to “protect the security of all of Europe.”

The need to supply Ukraine with heavy weapons was also stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, who on the morning of January 24 held talks with German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius. According to him, other countries “can already prepare” for the supply of German tanks to Ukraine.

In turn, Pistorius said that the German government needed more time to make a decision, and once again stressed that NATO should not be directly involved in this conflict. At the same time, the minister added that Berlin would not interfere with the training of the Ukrainian military in handling the Leopard.
