Iran sharply criticized the new EU and UK sanctions and promised to announce retaliatory measures in the near future. This is reported by Interfax with reference to the statement of the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani said the new EU and UK measures show a failure to understand the realities of Iran. He called the sanctions “a sign of desperation and disappointment”, adding that “it is understood in the EU and the UK that they will not affect the resolve of the Iranian people to resist foreign interference.”

In this regard, Iran has the right to take retaliatory measures “against human rights violators and supporters of terrorism in the EU and the UK”, which it will announce in the near future, the Foreign Ministry warned.

Recall, the EU Council announced on the eve of additional sanctions against Iran due to human rights violations in this country. On the same day, the United Kingdom also imposed sanctions against Iran.

Recall that mass protests swept Iran in mid-September 2022. Then 22-year-old Mahsa Amini died in an Iranian hospital. The girl was detained by the morality police for her uncovered head. The exact cause of the girl’s death remains unknown. But according to the most common version, her death was the result of a severe beating by security forces for refusing to wear a hijab. The police, however, insist that the girl died of a heart attack.
