The bold Polo Baquerizo continues on TC Television, although he is rarely seen on the screen, now he is a tiktoker

Polo Baquerizo was not the first animator of do business with me, the popular television program of the 70s, 80s and 90s. It entered the fifth installment, however it is the one that clearly remembers who its audience was and that recently successfully broke into the Tik Tok social network. ‘The eternal loser’ as he was baptized is still on television, on the same channel that opened the doors for him almost 47 years ago, TC Televisionbut rarely seen on screen.

He answered The 35 Questions of El Universo, in the midst of which he could not prevent a few tears from escaping, take out his temper, but he also sang and danced.

1.- What is your full name?

Leopoldo Bechara Otton Eloy Osvaldo.

2.- Where do so many come from?

Leopoldo for my paternal grandfather, Leopoldo Baquerizo German; Bechara by my maternal grandfather, I am of Lebanese descent; Ottón for my uncle, my dad’s brother; Eloy for Eloy Alfaro, because my grandfather Leopoldo was a Liberal, and Osvaldo for my uncle Luis Zavala Baquerizo’s father.

3.- How old is he?

This creature will be 68 years old on March 23.

4.- How long did ‘Do business with me’ last?

40 years.

5.- Are you still on TC Television?

Yes.

6.- What do you do on TC Television? You can’t see it on the screen, you would think it left the channel.

What the channel asks me to do. There are certain things that go on the air, for promotion, and there are other things that are recorded, which are for internal consumption by all the staff.

7.- How many years have you been working at TC?

I am going to 47 years, on April 15, and in the middle 53 years, on January 25.

8.- Have you not thought about retiring?

You have to ask the channel if it wants to retire me.

9.- But is retirement a labor right?

Let the channel answer that.

10.- Do you miss being close to the public?

Look, if you go out with me to the crowded place you want, pretend that I’m still with the program. If there is something I have, it is infinite gratitude, people do not forget me and one of the incredible things is that children recognize me and want to take pictures with me.

11.- Who loved him more: the grannies or the young girls from whom he stole picks?

All, all. Do you know what’s up? When I started on television I broke in with my own style, that is, the entertainers, the conductors, until I appeared they were in suits, formal, ‘ladies and gentlemen’ that was the style and a good style, good entertainers, but I went in and started to launch myself into the public, so many things ‘if I owe you something with this I will pay you’, the years go by and the little bit.

12.- The beaks were questioned and at present the criticism would be more severe. There it was seen as disrespect to the woman.

I think a lot depends on the nuance, how things are done. Many editorials came out years ago when this first began to appear; that it was a mockery, I don’t know how much. At that time they were not disabled but the handicapped. Know what? In a program I once had some disabled people, in the front row, I did “if I owe you something with this, I’ll pay you”, “all for me”, which is another step, who do you think was asking me: them. It depends on how things are done, it’s one thing to go in to mock, another thing to go into a theater. do business, what was it, was the group of friends from school, college, university or from the corner of the neighborhood transferred to the screen. The one who knew me as a child, in the process of puberty and everyone who knew me says that’s Polo, it wasn’t hard for me, what they saw on the screen, that was me.

13.- And how come you didn’t like suspenders, who imposed them on you?

Nobody imposed them on me. Let me explain: until 1980, a little before that I stopped wearing suits, but starting in August 1980, in the second fortnight, I incorporate the musicians into the program, I put on the band and I appear with suspenders, blue jean, the shirt rolled up and the boots. But originally I wasn’t looking for braces, I was looking for what trunks use, one piece, all raaa (simulates front closure), released. The issue is that because of my height (1.78) I would wear it and the shot would not hit me and then it seemed that I had tonsillitis, calculate what I am telling you now, so I opted to put on the blue jean, the shirt rolled up inside, which is how I like it and I put on the suspenders. Without looking for it, he made a mark, people say braces, Polo; says braces, do business with me.

14.-What does yajaviveyayuné mean?

The original word is yayune, but by musical hit yajaviveyayuné (he says it singing as he did in the program). Yaja vivi and yayune are Arabic words. Yaja vive is a very heartfelt expression: it is my life, something like that, and yayune as if to say you are the light of my eyes.

15.- Were those things spontaneous, did you produce them?

I did it myself and there came the tungalacatungalacatungatun, I did that at home. The day before I put him on the program, a cousin lived next to me, he had his mother, my great-aunt Adela, there were other people close to me and I told them I want them to see this and I put myself in front of them, yajaviveyayuné and the tungalacatunga (he dances sitting down) and it was a laugh, I put him in the program. It’s like the one with the cheek with the cheek, how was it born? Straw with my daughter, first wife, I start to play with her, she tried to fuck, we started laughing, I put it on the program. The things that I did on the corner of the neighborhood and others at school, wherever, I took them to the program and one is ‘if I owe you something with this I will pay you’.

16.- Speaking of debts, what is the biggest debt you have?

The only big debt that I can have is with God.

17.- Are you a believer?

Yes, I really believe in God.

18.- What would you say to God if you were in front of him?

Corduroy dear, corduroy dear. And over here another dear corduroy (shows the image of Pope John Paul II on his phone).

19.-What do you admire about John Paul II?

Look, this is like school, college, university: there are teachers, but there are teachers…

20.- And with the fashion for retro, hasn’t there been talk of relaunching ‘Do business with me’?

I tell you one thing, and I have said it, I have not given reasons or anything: I never agreed that the program should go off the air because it was the only family program left at the game show level, because the rest was already that current of reality. The one who rules, rules, and if he is wrong, he continues to rule and the program went off the air and I respected that, from there I spent four years in From house to house, then the pandemic came and they sent those of us who are elderly home, ‘shortcut’, said Tres Patines (raises his voice joking). Third age? I don’t know what the fourth and fifth will be, well no, and I went off the air regularly there.

21.- Have you done business outside of television?

Well I had my radio. In my life I have done lots of things that people don’t know about.

22.- Tell me a couple.

For example, I used to polish shoes. In my house, of course, Angelito Quinde was in charge, shoe polish cost one sucre and I said I’ll make my own box, black with water, coffee, I bought the brushes for the paint; around the house there was a mattress, I took the pieces, cut me there brother, one for the wet part and one to polish it chuf chuf chuf, I earned that sucre from each shoe polish. While I was studying, for example, I did raffles from 0 to 100, to one sucre, to have gifts to give to my dad, my mom, and my grandparents who lived next door.

23.- Who would you not do business with?

with the devil

24.- Are you afraid of the devil?

I do not like wasting time.

25.- Polo, who is the most turro?

I would say the cholito myself, me and my person.

26.- Why?

Because yes, well. Is that who am I going to call turro.

27.- Do you maintain the same weight as when you were seen in ‘Do business with me’?

when i started do business with me I weighed 115 pounds, when I got married, at the age of 28, I weighed 115 pounds, some passed and I was still at 115 pounds, that is, I looked like a newspaper from yesterday, but right now I’m at 165 pounds. For me, I would be happy if I returned to 115 pounds, lighter.

28.- Polo, what is your greatest satisfaction?

The privilege of being loved, that is priceless. Look, when I got married here there was no marriage like that. And I did not imagine it, the guests could not enter the Maria Auxiliadora church, we got married there. Do you know who was in the church?: the guests, counted on the fingers of one hand, but from five in the afternoon the church was full until nine at night, which was the wedding, of course my wife arrived, a girlfriend at that moment, at ten o’clock at night.

29.- Were you afraid that it would not arrive?

No, no, it’s that they went to warn him. Imagine if I was scared, I was not going to enter the church, my mom makes me enter. My mom tells me: ‘No, my son, it’s your people’, I cried (and she lets the tears escape).

The 35 questions: Bonil would not even drink water with Rafael Correa, “unless he has whiskey to cushion”

30.- You were always an easy tear.

And that I have learned to control myself, that’s why I breathe; My mommy didn’t like that I cried so much: ‘Mijito, you can’t be crying all the time on television,’ she told me.

31.- And how long have you been married?

We will be 40 years old next year and on November 13, 42 years in love.

32.- Polo entered the world of Tik Tok, how so?

Because sometimes life forces you to do certain things and you have to get involved little by little.

33.- But it was a boom. Reach up to 124.3 M views.

I do not know i do not know.

34.- Who manages the account? Is there a production behind it?

God finds out less and forgives (laughs).

35.- Will you resort to nostalgia in these Instagram and Tik Tok accounts?

I don’t know, something about that without a doubt, about my life, something about what I have told you in this interview, what do I know, it had better be a surprise factor!
