The Finnish authorities will provide Ukraine with the largest package of military assistance for the entire time of the conflict. At the same time, details are not disclosed for security reasons, the republic’s defense ministry said.
As stated in the statement of the department, the corresponding decision was made by the President of Finland at the proposal of the government. “This will be the 12th package of military equipment for Ukraine. According to estimates, the replacement of the military equipment included in this delivery will cost Finland more than 400 million euros.
The agency also clarifies that in general, Finland has allocated military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of 590 million euros. “When deciding on the provision of additional assistance, both the needs of Ukraine and the resources of the defense forces were taken into account,” the ministry said.
“Ukraine continues to need support to defend its territory, and this package of military equipment is by far the largest to date. Finland supplies Ukraine with heavy artillery and ammunition,” Finnish Defense Minister Mikko Savola said.
The Ministry of Defense emphasized that it would not provide more detailed information on the “content of assistance, methods of delivery or schedule” for “operational reasons”, as well as due to the need for Ukraine to “successfully receive assistance.”
It is also noted that sending a new aid package to Ukraine became possible thanks to Finland’s cooperation with Sweden. Issues of assistance to Ukraine will be discussed on Friday at the base at the US Ramstein airbase in Germany. There, the Finnish and Swedish defense ministers are to sign a “Declaration of Intent” on further support for Kyiv.
