After two years of investigations, the State Attorney General’s Office identified two prisoners who would have participated in the massacre that occurred in the Turi Deprivation of Liberty Center (CPL), which left 34 inmates dead, in 2021.
The hearing for the formulation of charges was held this Wednesday afternoon.
The figure for the massacre in the Turi prison continues to rise: 20 inmates have already been murdered
According to the provincial prosecutor, Leonardo Amoroso, the identity and participation of these inmates was determined thanks to a specialized expertise on the videos of the security cameras where it is observed that Ringo Junior V. and Oswaldo Adrián A., participated in the riot in which there were also 18 dismembered inmates.
One of the reasons for the investigation to be delayed for 24 months is that the only way to investigate was through filming, since none of the detainees wanted to give their testimony.
Nobody knew anything, there was a kind of pact of silence between them, Amoroso said.
But also during the process, the identification records of the corpses, the reports of the medical-legal autopsies, the technical eye inspection and recognition of the place of the facts and evidence, investigative reports from Dinased, a compact disc that contains the videos from the CPL Turi security cameras, reports of the audio and video tests and the human identification test.
However, with this first process, he hopes that new investigations will be opened in order to find more people responsible for the attack.
According to a statement from the Azuay Prosecutor’s Office, José Manzano and Líder Sánchez died from multiple injuries with sharp weapons that lacerated vital organs and according to the investigative proceedings it was Ringo Junior V., Oswaldo Adrián A. and other inmates who attacked the two victims while they were in an alley, located between two of the CPL Turi pavilions.
The two victims are part of the 34 murdered inmates.
Actual problems
After this first mishap, another riot occurred inside the Turi prison in April 2022, where 20 prisoners died in similar situations.
But over the years the problems have remained. A sample of that happened this week.
On Tuesday, a prisoner was beaten to death by his companions; and on Wednesday three police officers were arrested in their attempt to bring two firearms into the pavilions.
Illicit training centers for criminal gangs are spreading along the coast; In less than a year the Police detected spaces in Guayas and Santa Elena
The head of the Azuay subzone, Hugo Arroyo, assured that they are constantly carrying out operations inside and outside the perimeter, the latest result being the confiscation of a revolver.
Due to these situations, he recognized that more effort must be made in the investigative part to avoid serious confrontations.
What has happened from April 2022 to date, according to this official, are “normal fights.” (YO)
