Thus, Softys becomes the first actor in the Ecuadorian industry to launch a zero-waste, recyclable, biodegradable and adhesive-free packaging.

Elite, a brand of the Softys company, a leading company in the development of products and solutions for personal care, introduces the environmentally friendly line “Elite Eco” to the Ecuadorian market, making Ecuador the third country in the region with this innovation. Its presentations of toilet paper and paper towels are characterized by being free of plastics, with 100% paper, recyclable and biodegradable packaging.

Innovation and sustainability

This milestone for Softys and its Elite brand is framed within the pillars of the company’s 2020-2023 Sustainability Strategy and with special emphasis on innovation in product quality.

In this regard, María Elisa Rivero, Commercial Manager of Softys Ecuador, pointed out that “consumers are increasingly aware that we must care for and preserve the environment, and at Softys sustainability is in our DNA and on our agenda. From this point of view we bring this regional innovation: Elite Eco, where not only a product is guaranteed but also a recyclable and biodegradable paper packaging”.

This launch does not correspond to an isolated action within Softys, but is part of an integral work of the company. Both sustainability and innovation are pillars of its strategy and this is reflected in the way it works, as well as in the objectives and purpose of its business model.

According to the company, consumers expect a superior product, service or experience; but they also want companies to contribute to the common good and, ultimately, generate a positive impact on society and the world.

Specific actions and deadlines

The four pillars of the Softys Sustainability Plan 2020 – 2023 consider some main actions, with specific goals and deadlines:

Facilitate a better life for all. Through product innovation, a zero accident mentality, and a Regional Diversity and Inclusion Strategy.

Build a sustainable economic environment. make sustainability a key attribute of the value of their brands, and a key axis of their supply chain management.

Promote the development of local communities. Through a Community Relations policy and local development programs especially focused on health and hygiene, gender equality and access to water. The latter has become especially tangible through “Softys With You: more care for everyone”, a US$ 6 million social investment project to provide access to water and sanitation solutions, impacting 30,000 people in Latin America within a period of 5 years in partnership with TECHO, and communities from eight countries.

In Ecuador, during the first year of the alliance, 22 solutions will be installed in different communities starting in May of this year, directly benefiting 1,150 people, and implemented through community work with Softys Ecuador collaborators.

Protect our common home. Complying with sustainable commitments: being a zero waste company by 2025; reduce the use of industrial water by 25% for the same year; and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030.

For Softys it is important to meet these goals, but also to promote initiatives that have the same purposes and arise from society.

“We seek to support the tasks of an NGO whose work has been sustained over time, which shares our philosophy of creating natural value, and that is what we found in Fundación La Iguana, which through its campaign “Sembrando una Ciudad” replaces species by native plants and trees, to contribute to the increase of biodiversity in the country”, says Carolina Román, Brand Manager of Consumer Tissue from Softys Ecuador.

For her part, Andrea Fiallos, founder and president of the foundation, appreciates the support of a company that she considers committed to the environment and the Sustainable Development Goals.

“Otherwise, we would not have considered this alliance, since it is not about digging a hole but about planting trees so that they survive, and both the company and its volunteers have shown that they intend to accompany that goal,” says Fiallos.

With the launch of the Elite Eco line, the alliance with the La Iguana Foundation and the actions of the Softys Contigo program, the company closes a circle: offering the best care, for a better tomorrow.
