The FAE has not yet issued an official statement on what would have happened at the top of the mountain, early this Sunday.
Montecristi, MANABÍ
An alleged failure in the radar gear pump would have been the cause of an explosion near this recently installed monitoring system on the Montecristi hill. The sound was heard by hundreds of people in the area adjacent to the slopes of this mountain.
This radar came into operation on October 27 and, according to the national government, it was located to control illegal activities linked to drug trafficking. Its range, according to those responsible for the operation of this team, is 220 miles around.
The roar was heard around 03:30 this Sunday by residents of sectors such as San José neighborhood, 1 de Mayo streets, Pichincha, 10 de Agosto, Rocafuerte, 9 de Julio, Eloy Alfaro, Jaramijó, among others.
In social networks, several Montecristenses made inquiries if they had heard what for many was an explosion that was not echoed by aid agencies in this canton.
Montecristi radar has a range of 220 miles; Another one is announced in Manabí
Pablo Ramírez, commander of zone 4 of the National Police, told the news portal Find out Manabí that apparently it was a failure in the gear pump near the radar, and that is why Criminalistics and the Intervention and Rescue Group personnel were mobilized this morning.
Even the Aeropolicial helicopter of the National Police made an overflight this morning in the urban area of Montecristi.
This newspaper sought the version of the Ecuadorian Air Force regarding this incident, but no response was obtained at the time. (I)
