Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during which they discussed the exchange of prisoners with Ukraine and the creation of a regional gas hub in Turkey. This was reported in the press service of the Kremlin.
“Both sides confirmed their intention to further comprehensive development of Russian-Turkish cooperation. Among the priorities is cooperation in the energy sector, including the supply of Russian natural gas and the creation of a regional gas hub in Turkey,” the report says.
During the conversation, as reported in the Kremlin, the exchange of views on the situation around Ukraine continued.
Erdogan raised the issue of the exchange of prisoners of Russia with Ukraine, primarily the wounded. Putin, in turn, pointed to the “destructive line of the Kyiv regime”, which relied on the intensification of hostilities with the support of the West, which is increasing the volume of arms supplies.
According to the press service, “the implementation of the” package “Istanbul agreements of July 22, 2022 on the export of Ukrainian grain from the Black Sea ports and the unblocking of food and fertilizer supplies from Russia was considered.”
In addition, issues of normalizing Turkish-Syrian relations were discussed, including in the context of Ankara’s initiative to launch consultations with the participation of Russian, Turkish and Syrian representatives, the press service added. “The practical significance of the joint work of Russia, Turkey and Iran within the framework of the Astana process of assistance to the Syrian settlement was also noted,” the report says.
