The Federation of University Students of Ecuador (FEUE) questioned that from 2023 public universities and polytechnic schools take charge of their admission process that until 2022 was under the responsibility of the Secretary of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (Senescyt). .

Érik Barba, a student of the Public Administration career at the Central University, who is president of the FEUE, questioned this process, as he mentioned that it is being bureaucratized and made more complex for high school graduates.
He added that there should also be a delivery of resources and not only the transfer of that competence.
“Taking an exam has its costs, you need your virtual platform, you need teachers to ask the questions,” he argued.
Qualification of the baccalaureate degree certificate, one of the requirements to enter the Central University of Quito in the admission process 2023
For Barba, each university has its own calendars and schedules, which will make it difficult for the bachelor to want to study.
He added that before, with a single admission exam, five career options were chosen, while now students would have to apply to several universities and prepare for several exams.
“The higher education system has to be harmonized and has to be well planned,” said the leader.
Barba considered that, instead of there being more students in the universities, these will decrease, and in his opinion, the quotas will not increase until there is a greater budget allocation.
However, Senescyt has stated that for 2023 there is a budget increase of $200 million, since it goes from $1,100 to $1,300 million.
In addition, the universities, in their autonomy, will have the power to allocate these funds as they see fit.
More than 300,000 registered in the 2023 admission process for public universities; registration ends this thursday
Although the National Registry process concluded on January 12, and the number of registered to access universities was around 366,000, the final number of registered has not yet been reported.
Several universities have advanced that they are in the development of their internal admission processes, but at least ten will not do so, rather there will be accompaniment from the Senescyt.
This newspaper made a query to the National Polytechnic School (EPN) about what the mechanism will be via email, but there was no response until after noon this Monday.
The Senescyt reported last week that one of the universities that has asked for their support is the Polytechnic.
After having completed the National Registry as the first step, the admission phases will come later, which include registration, evaluation, and acceptance of the quota. (YO)
