They found alias ‘Garache’ hanging in his cell at the Regional jail

Miguel Ángel Benítez Bazán, aka garagean expert in escapism and who had been serving a sentence for murder since 2012, was found lifeless on the morning of this Sunday, January 15, in his cell in the Guayaquil Regional jail.

The body was hanging by the neck. He was found by prison guides and specialized Police units were immediately activated to gather evidence and determine if the prisoner committed suicide or if he was murdered.

In prison they know this type of death as “putting on the tie.”

For some years the prisoner had been in the maximum security section of the Regional prison, since in March 2013 he escaped from the Litoral Penitentiary.

Benítez, now 35 years old, was on the Most Wanted list after escaping from Guayaquil prison. Months later he was recaptured in Milagro by the Search Bloc.

But it was not the first time that alias garage managed to evade justice.

He was arrested in 2012 for the murder of a man outside a nightclub in Babahoyo. They captured him in Guayaquil and during his detention he was shot. When he was in a hospital with police guard, he escaped.

This newspaper then published that the father of the wounded man went to the hospital with a woman who stayed talking with the police, which Benítez apparently took advantage of to escape through a window tying up some sheets.

Witnesses pointed out that two subjects were waiting for him on a motorcycle to escape. (YO)
