The Pichincha Prosecutor’s Office will file charges against five inmates of the El Inca prison, in Quito, after the fight that ended with the murder of an inmate.
The altercations took place on the afternoon of Friday, January 13, and a strong intervention had to be made to take control of that prison.
The inmates involved in the incidents will be charged with alleged murder.

Among the investigative procedures ordered by the Prosecutor’s Office is the taking of versions of two prison guides, the removal of the corpse, as well as the practice of medical-legal examinations of other prisoners who were injured.
To control the situation, operations were carried out with the support of the National Police and personnel from the Penitentiary Security and Surveillance Corps.
In total, 110 uniformed officers from the National Police of the Special Operations Group (COE), the Order Maintenance Unit (UMO) and servers from the Security and Penitentiary Surveillance Corps intervened in the emergency.

According to the SNAI, with the actions deployed in the prison, control of the prison was retaken.
Last December, Santiago Loza Moscoso, who served as director of the El Inca prison, was assassinated in a hit-and-run style. (YO)
