Two men die in a gun battle in Esmeraldas

Two men killed and four wounded by bullet wounds were registered in three violent incidents in the city of Esmeraldas and the rural parish of Tachina, between the afternoon and night of this Friday the 13th.

At about 9:00 p.m. last night, a man identified as René Landázuri, 26, was attacked when he was meeting outside a local Tachina parish.

Unknown subjects on board a motorcycle shot him several times and, apparently, the victim responded, since a firearm was found on the table where they were drinking.

Landázuri’s possible perpetrator died in front of the wall of the Carlos Concha airport, on the E15 north Esmeraldas-Tachina highway, where he would have been abandoned by the driver of the motorcycle on which he was traveling.

Investigative technicians from Legal Medicine, Criminalistics and Dinased carried out the skills and the removal of the corpses.

A police officer said that the two homicides are related to the same event, according to witness accounts. The second victim was found a firearm feeder in one of the pants pockets.

In another event, a man who was cleaning his motorcycle in an express washer on Juan Salinas and 6 de Diciembre streets, diagonal to the Folke Anderson stadium in the capital of Esmeralda, was shot.

Witnesses reported that two subjects arrived on a motorcycle at about 2:00 p.m. yesterday and suddenly shot the individual. Two employees of this establishment were also injured and would be collateral victims.

Four 9 mm pistol sheaths were scattered on the floor as evidence of the attack. The shots were taken to a health home.

After 6:00 p.m. another attack occurred in the 24 de Mayo neighborhood, Nuevos Horizontes sector, west of the city.

Two subjects on a motorcycle arrived at a home in that sector and shot a man known as Niky. Residents of the sector were alarmed by the detonations of firearms, as were students, teachers and parents of the Cristo Rey fiscomisional educational unit.

The National Police took up the procedure and the respective investigations of these two incidents.

Ten violent deaths have been registered in Eloy Alfaro, Esmeraldas and Quinindé in the first two weeks of this month. (YO)
