As Ricardo Guala, 24 years old, the student who drowned in the maritime zone of Atacames, in the south of the province of Esmeraldas, was identified.
The incident was reported by friends of Guala around 4:00 p.m. on Friday the 13th.
In recent days, the authorities asked bathers to leave the sea to avoid emergencies, due to the strong waves contemplated between the 10th and 13th of this month.
About this recent case, a volunteer lifeguard said that the strong waves dragged the victim and that prevented him from being rescued alive.
Deivin Bone, a member of a lifeguard group from Atacames, confirmed Guala’s rescue, but without vital signs due to drowning.
It was indicated that the young man was from Quito and his body was dragged near the Juan Sebastián hotel.
The now deceased had arrived with friends who were university students from the capital to share a few days of vacation, according to the preliminary report of Juan Avilés, police chief of the Atacames district.
On recent Thursday, another young man was also rescued on Las Palmas beach. Apparently he also drowned.
Meanwhile, on the 2nd of this month, a tourist drowned in Atacames, lifeguards reported. (YO)
