Manta, MANABI
“When I see smoke coming from the front of the bus, I told the passengers: everyone get off. I opened both doors and they went down without any problems”. Antonio Luz, driver of a bus that caught fire this morning in Manta, thus recounted part of the incident recorded in his unit.
The bus made the route this morning on Route 14, from the General Eloy Alfaro de Montecristi parish to the Laica Eloy Alfaro de Manabí University.
The incident occurred after 06:00 this Friday and the fire in the transport unit broke out near the Inepaca roundabout, located one kilometer from the Manta Municipality building, in the heart of this city.
Luz pointed out that her shift left at 05:30 from the Montecristense parish, and that she did not know the cause that caused the fire. The moment she detected smoke, the bus driver dropped off a person.
A short circuit would have caused a bus fire on the Esmeraldas road
Most of the passengers in that unit were precisely ULEAM students, Luz acknowledged.
“Everyone got off without problems, that’s the important thing, there was only material damage,” the driver declared a few minutes after the incident.
He believes that the unit he was driving suffered a short circuit in the electrical system.
Several firefighters were deployed to the scene to put out the fire that consumed a large part of the bus. After almost half an hour they were able to control the flames that were registered after this incident that will be investigated. (YO)
