National Police will incorporate 10,000 agents in 2023; The first phase will start this Friday the 13th.

10,000 police officers will join the institution in 2023 with the aim of having around 80,000 troops by 2025.

This was announced by state authorities when presenting the recruitment process for 5,000 applicants that will begin at 00:00 this Friday, January 13, and will end next Wednesday, January 18, at 11:59 p.m.

Registrations will be online.

Juan Zapata, Minister of the Interior, indicated that the police entity needs to increase its presence on the streets of the country and adjust to the technical norm that there are four agents for every thousand inhabitants. At the moment, there are approximately three police officers for every thousand inhabitants.

Currently there are 52,000 uniformed officers, and in the following two years 30,000 more will join.

In 2022, 1,564 graduated, and 8,500 applicants joined in October last year.

In a first phase, 2023, 5,000 police officers will be incorporated: 400 at the managerial level (60 women, 340 men) and 4,600 at the operational level (3,227 men); 600 will be of peoples and nationalities.

Zapata said that they are working in round tables with government agencies and civil society to have a framework that includes gender equity and the eradication of gender violence.

There will be an exchange of information with other state entities to determine if those who want to be police have urgency tickets, removal due to problems of violence against women or complaints.

He highlighted the incorporation of members of communities and indigenous peoples, who will be prepared in Orellana, Morona Santiago, Napo, Imbabura, Cotopaxi and Tungurahua.

Police commander Fausto Salinas said they could focus on environmental protection, as well as conflict management.

Salinas indicated that 4,000 registrations will be received to fill the vacancies of 340 male applicants. For women, 700 registrations will be received for 60 applicants at the managerial level.

For the technical-operative level, high school graduates, third level, towns and nationalities, registrations will be according to the last digit of the ID, from Saturday January 14 to January 18. This until completing 3,800 seats.

“Ecuador has some conflicts that we have to resolve, such as the mining issue, such as organized crime… So, the standard that has been thought of is 80,000 police officers,” Salinas said.

Zapata asked that complaints be filed in case there are irregularities.

Those interested must take cognitive, academic, medical, physical, trust and interview exams.

Much attention will also be paid to the presence of tattoos, especially if they are associated with criminal organizations.
