Carnival is one of the most anticipated holidays by Ecuadorians because there are four days off that can be used to travel, relax from the workday, or enjoy the attractions of the festivity.
This year, carnival begins on Saturday February 18 and extends to Sunday the 19th, Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st, the latter two being holidays. In accordance with the law of holidays in Ecuador, these dates are not recoverable.
At the end of December, the Ministry of Tourism announced the list of holidays that Ecuador will have between the years 2023 and 2025.
On the last carnival holiday, in 2022, 186,439 people mobilized through locations on the Ecuadorian coastal profile, according to statistics shown by the national Emergency Operations Committee (COE).
The carnival holiday, prior to the Catholic celebrations to start Lent, is one of the longest of the year as it allows four days off.
After Carnival, Catholics celebrate Ash Wednesday, which in 2023 falls on February 22. These days are also a preparation for Catholic Lent. (YO)
