From this January 10 there will be waves of up to 2.5 meters on the Ecuadorian coast

A period of considerable energy waves will be felt from this January 10 on the Ecuadorian coast.

The swell comes from the northwest, with waves that can be between 1.5 and 2.5 meters.

The Oceanographic and Antarctic Institute of the Navy (Inocar) reported that these conditions will be felt until January 13 and therefore asked the maritime community to exercise caution.

The conditions of this swell were expected to be perceived first in the Galapagos area since yesterday, January 9 and, from this 10, on the Ecuadorian coasts.

It is expected that the intensity of the sea state on the continental coast will vary between moderate and slightly agitated; while in the Insular region between light and moderate.

The Oceanographic and Antarctic Institute of the Navy indicated that while the arrival of the north swells lasts with periods greater than 18 seconds (January 10), it is recommended to exercise caution along the entire coastline, mainly on the beaches with a northeast-southwest alignment; and north-west zone of the Insular region.

These conditions, according to Inocar, will influence both the variability of coastal currents and the intensity of the breaking waves on the coast.

“For this reason, it is recommended to take the appropriate precautionary measures in maritime and recreational activities that take place along the coastline,” said Inocar.

It is probable that after January 13 there will be a tendency for this swell to decrease.(YO)
