In recent weeks, cases due to respiratory conditions have decreased in some clinics and health homes in Quito, but it is not considered to be a trend.

In the IESS Quito Sur hospital, according to its manager Juan Sánchez, during the last fifteen days there has been a progressive decrease in patients in emergency due to respiratory symptoms.
They go to tents that were placed outside that health facility for a medical assessment.

About a month ago, Sánchez recalled that there were between 600 and 700 people a day who went to that health home, while currently there are about 170, between adults and children.
In pediatric patients, he noted, multiple circulation of viruses such as influenza, respiratory syncytial, and COVID-19 is observed, and coronavirus and influenza in adults.
This decrease was attributed to the fact that there was a peak of infections in children, with which transmission decreases.
In addition, there were requests for isolation or rest and the holidays for the December festivities. Also to the use of the mask that helps reduce transmission.
He clarified, however, that the demand from people seeking medical attention has not ceased.

“You have to remember that the contagion cycles are evaluated every 15 days, what does this mean? that we are only seeing the results of the Christmas festivities between January 7 and 10, and of the New Year’s festivities between January 15 and January 20, ”he explained.
In a network of private pediatric clinics there is also a decrease in cases.
Fernando Aguinaga, a pediatrician and former president of the Ecuadorian Pediatric Society, pointed out that there are quite a few cases of respiratory symptoms, with a rebound in COVID-19, greater control of influenza, but to a lesser degree than what was observed in weeks of December
He estimated between 30% to 40% that the cases have dropped, but they may increase after the festivities, he said.
Of every 10 children who go to the consultation, 7 present respiratory symptoms.
From the Ministry of Health of the Municipality of Quito it was indicated that this Monday they were collecting information on the epidemiological situation corresponding to the first week of January 2023, so specific information could be available in the next few hours. (YO)
