Former participants in the Russian special operation in Ukraine, volunteers, as well as volunteers who worked in the Donbass, will be nominated for the 2023 elections to the legislative and executive authorities, Vedomosti reports, citing four sources close to the presidential administration (AP), as well as representatives three parties.

As one of the sources told the newspaper, the Presidential Administration and United Russia are considering the possibility of including military, volunteers and volunteers in the election campaigns of candidates for deputies, if they have such a desire. “It is beneficial for everyone to have such guys in their team, because there is a request for this in society,” he stressed.

In addition, the interlocutor of the publication, close to the State Duma, noted that it was “not by chance” that some of the deputies went to the special operation zone as volunteers. According to him, after this trip, they will be able to return as “veterans” and join the campaign in this public status. A United Russia source confirmed to the newspaper that the party “already has a reserve” of people who volunteered for the war zone or work there as volunteers.

The first deputy chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, Yuri Afonin, told Vedomosti that about 400 party members were participating in the hostilities as volunteers, and 13 more people were killed. “Therefore, of course, if during the campaign they are not on the front line, then we will consider them as candidates for participation in the elections. If these are not members of the party, but those who share our ideas and are ready to build socialism, then they too, ”the deputy explained.

A Just Russia and the Liberal Democratic Party also plan to nominate members of a special operation as candidates in the elections, Dmitry Gusev, first deputy head of the Just Russia faction, and Alexei Didenko, deputy head of the LDPR faction, confirmed to the publication.

Regional elections this year will be held on 10 September. It is planned to elect 20 governors in direct elections, five in indirect elections, as well as deputies of 20 legislative assemblies, the newspaper recalls. In particular, regional parliaments will be elected for the first time in four new constituent entities of Russia.
