Armed attacks on vehicles, executions in peripheral sites and the appearance of dismembered bodies on land are part of the trend of criminal violence that continues in certain streets and sectors of Guayaquil during these first six days of the year.

In this short period, from Sunday the 1st to this Friday the 6th, fatalities continued to be added in Guayaquil. Just on the last day of the working week, there was a report of at least four people murdered, including two cases at points of high vehicular and commercial movement.
These figures add up to at least 27 violent deaths in Zone 8, which includes Guayaquil, Samborondón and Durán. With this, the murder rate doubles the fourteen cases reported in the same period of the previous year. That is, there was an increase of 92%.
One of the recent violent acts was the attack against the driver of an armored vehicle on Avenida Miguel H. Alcívar, in Kennedy Norte.
Amid the surprise of the office workers and passers-by in that area of high commercial and business movement, the victim was transferred in a patrol car.
In this case, a person who worked in an auto yard was hit by a bullet and died a few minutes later, despite being taken to a nursing home.
Fausto Miño, deputy chief of Police Command 8, said that police actions, with their units distributed throughout the territory, are permanently maintained with special devices in areas of the city, as well as in areas considered to be in greatest conflict.
“That is why in most of these events the articulation of the Police is immediate,” he said.
Thus, for example, he cited the Kennedy case, where police teams identified a vehicle and two alleged perpetrators of the shots at the driver of the armored car. Similarly, in Durán there was a prompt activation that led to the apprehension of seven suspects.
Murder of savings cooperative official would be related to attempted kidnapping, according to Police
“Many hypotheses can be given. Above all, Investigations and Dinased will establish the motivations for these events, ”he said about the recent violent events.
Another case that shocked the public occurred on Nicolás Lapentti Avenue, in Durán, this recent Friday.
There, the representative of a savings and credit agency was shot while driving in his car. Seven individuals aboard a vehicle and a motorcycle chased him and shot him.
According to the Police, the individual was affected and died a few minutes later on the way to a health home.
For the Durán police chief, Jorge Haddaty, this case could have been an attempted kidnapping. Likewise, coinciding with Miño, he highlighted that preventive units were in the area and noticed the attack, for which reason they began a pursuit to find the alleged perpetrators of the crime.
“The preventive patrol at that moment manages to visualize the violent act, and that allows the units to be alerted and to be able to identify, locate and neutralize the causes of this violent act,” he said.
After passing several streets, he was apprehended in the Los Helechos sector. After reviewing the computer systems, it was found that two of the seven suspects have criminal records for kidnapping and attempted murder.
The police chief insisted that the gendarmes stationed in Durán maintain operational plans to “not allow crime to take to the streets.”
For this reason, he highlighted that, last year, Durán had five cases of violent deaths, and that has fallen to less than half by having two events until the afternoon of January 6.
In the Durán canton, according to the police chief, work must continue with state entities and investigative units in order to reduce the numbers of violent deaths.

On this Friday there were more cases of crimes. The owner of a bakery was shot to death when he began his working day in the business, located in Los Pinos, at km 26 of the road to Daule.
Two subjects on a motorcycle arrived in the sector and shot the man three times when he appeared to attend to them.
On Thursday night of this week, three kilometers from there, in the Rosa Elvira sector, two bodies were found bagged near the Daule River. A few hours later, at dawn on Friday, there were reports of human parts that corresponded to one of those corpses found.
The baker and the body of the person, whose remains were found in two places, had no prior records, so the Police have not yet determined the motivations for these cases.
Other cases of kidnapping and execution in other areas occurred this week in the northwest.
In block 21 of Bastión Popular, the kidnapping and execution of a man was reported.
According to witnesses, the victim was taken off the motorcycle and shot in the leg, to later continue with three more bullet wounds to the head. Finally, they dumped it in a ditch, a local man said.
A similar case occurred the previous Wednesday at the Casuarina. That day, men took a minor from his house, located in Ciudad de Dios, and took him to the aforementioned area to shoot him with a rifle.
A note left next to the body announced the start of a supposed gang war. In the teenager’s home, five other members of his family were gunned down: three died and two were injured. (YO)
